20 YEARS JAPANESE GARDEN HASSELT
Japan's best was built in Hasselt, already 20 years ago today ! In Hasselt's Japanese IThe Japanese Garden miniaturises and idealises a beautiful piece of nature, just like it has been done for centuries in Japan itself. The Japanese Garden in Hasselt was built in 1992 thanks to the warm relationship between Hasselt and her sister city Itami (Japan).
Designers, architects and landscape architects, having earned respect in Japan due to their involvement in restoring ancient imperial gardens and the building of historically correct buildings, vouched for the design while Japanese professionals literally camped in the garden for months on end in order to model the garden according tot he most strict rules of sakuteiki – the art of landscaping – as prescribed by the grand master in the 12th century. On top of this all, this Japanese Garden is the largest in Western Europe.
